Firefox 1.5 released

Firefox 1.5 launched to great hoopla today. Lots of new features and quite a few nice upgrades to existing portions of it. Nice to see it finally will update the main browser without needing a full installer.

Here’s a quick list of the rest of the new stuff:

  • Automated Update
  • Faster Browser navigation
  • Drag & Drop reordering for browser tabs.
  • Improved popup blocking
  • Clear Private Data feature provides an easy way to remove personal data.
  • Answers.com added to the search engine list.
  • Improvement to product usability (including descriptive error pages, redesigned options menu, RSS discovery, and “Safe Mode” experience).
  • Better accessibility
  • Report a broken Web site wizard
  • Better support for Mac OS X (including profile migration for Safari and Mac IE, for those of us that have OSX)
  • New support for Web Standards including SVG, CSS 2, CSS 3 and Javascript 1.6.
  • Many security enhancements.

There’s enough new stuff and better tuned existing stuff in Firefox that no one has any excuse to be relying on the ancient Internet Explorer for anything other than a way to get to the Firefox download site. Get it now
