Introducing Moopost ver .8
Since I’ve been having so much fun integrating moo.fx into wordpress I thought how much fun it would be to integrate it into posts.
Due to so many different ways of constructing a theme it took a bit of work to get going but in the end I think it’s a quick handy little plugin that works straight out of the box with no errors.
Anyways to install this plugin all you need to do is upload the moopost folder into your plugins folder and then activate it. It should work flawlessly. If it doesn’t it’s mostlike the way your theme formats the post title. If you take a look at the index.php file inside your theme folder you want the_permalink to be called first in the post for this to work the best.
Also since this includes an image (which due to not being set for a specific theme isn’t the best image but I like it. It is however a png using alpha transparency so it will look great in firefox, safari, and IE 7 but will look terrible in IE 6 and earlier. Anyhow if you want to change it there is also an included gif file but that image isn’t really suitable for production usage. Feel free to make your own image and replace it.
The plugin has been tested with both the standard 2 themes included with wordpress (default and classic). As I install new themes I’ll check and update with bug fixes. In the mean time feel free to let me know if you have any errors or questions.
To see the plugin in action go here:
http://cdcstudios.com/wptest/
Make sure to use the theme switcher on the sidebar to see it switch between the themes and still work perfectly :D

This worked well for me with the Default theme but just gave me a big graphic next to each post title with my current theme, and didn’t expand the post which I have shortened with a plugin. It also put the same graphic next to the Permalink URl under each post.
I realize you can’t possibly configure for every theme out there but looks like I’m first here so, here’s my title (which has PermaLink first as you suggest above), hope it makes it thru lol:
h2 class=”posttitle” id=”post- ?php the_ID(); ? ” a href=” ?php the_permalink() ? ” rel=”bookmark” ?php the_title(); ? /a /h2

Your title code above is identical to the default kubrick theme’s code so I’m guessing it is interference with some element of your current theme. Can you email me a copy of your theme or let me know what plugin you’re talking about using to shorten your posts already?

Nice! Worked first time on my K2 based theme – a suggestion – how about different images for “closed” and “expanded” posts for the next version?

That’s a brilliant idea Tom! I definitely will put that one in.
I’m also glad to see that it plays well with K2 inspired themes.

Billy,
It looks like the issue lies with that theme. I’m not entirely sure where the issue lies but I do know that the theme generates quite a few java errors without any plugins active. It’s a nice theme though. I’ll keep poking around the theme and see if I can find a fix for it.
The good news is that Post Teaser works perfectly with the plugin.

Java errors? Hmmm, I’ve never tested for those. Of course, I didn’t create this theme anyway and I’ve never tried it with no plugins but with all the ones I have in it now, it is producing only one error (and that is due to the way my related links code defaults when nothing is found, it happened for the first time only yesterday due to one post…). Anyway, thanks for looking into it, I’ll be back next time I change themes lol. Thx.

That’s going to be fixed in the next update which should be out fairly soon.
Coming in the next major version will be a icon switcher with 5-6 different icons you can use to match your theme.

This is the best plugin created for wordpress. Ajax is the future of the web and so far only moo.fx has provided ajax feature to ordinary website owners. This is a great plugin, once more…

Is there a way to make this effect work when you click “read more”. This thing works great but it doesn’t look quite right on my site. I think with the function happening when you click on “read more” it would be really cool.

Hello, I am having the same issue as BillyG. I get these boxes with x in them. I am using the Hemingway theme which I really like and would like to continue using it.
Also how do I change the font on these effects, for some reason the comment text comes out really dark and not to pretty.

The font issue would be a result of using cleartype within Windows. It’s a known windows/IE bug that causes text to appear incorrectly. Currently the only fixes I know of are getting IE 7 beta 3 or else disabling cleartype altogether.

Add a background color to stylesheet on
then the cleartype fonts show correctly.
Also works with others div’s that use Ajax.

Sorry for my last comment, now is correct:
Add a background color to stylesheet on every div, span, etc. then the cleartype fonts show correctly.
Also works with others plugins that use Ajax.

I explain better,
Just add:
.expand, .expander background: color
in your stylesheet.
That’s all.

While that work it will cause problems with some types of designs. If you use a theme switcher remember to change each themes css in order to have this issue resolve neatly. At the end of the day though the suggested fix is a stopgap measure to resolve an issue with Microsoft’s Cleartype technology. Cleartype renders text twice when dealing with the opacity tag. It’s annoying as hell but they appear to have realized this and are taking steps to fix it.

Hi there,
I was pleased to find your widget after looking all over for somethign that shows snippets of each post. But it didn’t really do what I wanted.
On your test blog it shows the title and some of the article with the mag glass at the lef tof the title. On my blog it only shows the title of compressed articles and it shows the mag glass at the top left of the title and two of them at the bottom left of the article.
It did work seemlessly aside form this with no problems but I did want it to compress the first article and show the first few lines of content on all articles including the top one.
Is there any way I can mod it myself to do this? I had a quick look but did not see anything immediately obvious to my purpose, and I am just a novice in the code department)
I replaced the image also as it did not work on the black background I have.

I was baffled at why that text looked terrible in IE. Adding that background color to the DIV worked!

Chris,
I’m having issues using this post and other moo.fx scripts in it. i.e. I have an accordion effect on my “skills” page and lightbox on my “portfolio” page, but they are rendered useless with Moopost. Have any idea, b/c this is a good plugin?

Thx,
chris

You should be able to alter the css to display a different icon to the stretch div when stretched is visible.
I had intended to add that in to the released version but didn’t have a chance to at the time.
