It’s been awhile since I’ve had the strength to think or type anything of import. Day after day I’m left reeling by the realizations of what I’ve done, what I’ve lost and why. Some may say my transgressions are minor and that they are not something to get this worked up about. They’re wrong. I sacrificed the happiness of my family without their regard. I made decisions affecting the happiness and potential of those that matter most to me in the name of success. Success isn’t something you can make, it’s something you earn. Earned by the fires of self sacrifice and doing what is right for those around you.

I am not entirely blameless in the situation, an ugly disease called depression struck a silent sneaking blow to who I am, who I had been to my family and how I wanted to be. I can’t take that back, I can’t undo the mistakes I’ve made or ignore them. While I may not have noticed the depths of despair and fear in my heart over the last 15 months due to the illness, I am still responsible. I hurt my family in subtle yet massively painful ways.

My goal since October 12th 2005 has always been to do right by Zoe, and to truly love her without condition. When Zandr was born I felt the same for him, and the same with Mikey. Sadly due to fear of failing them and an inability to cast away self doubt I let myself spiral ever downward into a place where I could no longer feel anything but anger, sadness and despair. The worst part is I couldn’t see it even at the end. It took me losing everything important to me to wake me up from the horror I’d become. That whole time is there replaying in my head fuzzily. It’s like I was in the backseat of my own brain wanting desperately to scream but I had no voice, no ability to reason with myself. My heart knew the truth, that Zoe, Zandr & Mikey had captured my heart and soul from the moment I met them, but I could not think it or know it any longer.

Depression is an evil evil disease that can cause good people to do bad things or at the very least make them incapable of making the right choices. Even now that I’m a few weeks into treatment for it and am finally painfully aware of how bad I became, I can still feel it probing at my heart looking for a way to once more take the reins and lead me back down. I’m crawling out of the hole finally. It sadly is something that has to be done alone. Only I can find the path back to unity of my heart and soul, I have guides in the form of therapists, counselors & medication but the act of healing comes from within. I do want to thank the people who have given me advice & have spent time with me to ease the burden weighing me down though. Each moment is different and some are almost unbearable. I disagree with some of the things they’ve said but the feeling of support makes me still listen.

Every day has been a struggle, at night I fight back against the pain of loneliness in my empty house. The feelings of home and happiness now just a memory. I don’t know how to make amends to those three amazing people who inspired me to be a better man. I’m sorry I failed to realize their hopes for me. I took in their love and cast back sullen sadness no matter how much I wanted to rejoice with them in the amazing journey of life. I turned my back on my best friend, lover and wife. I turned my back on our two amazing joyful sons. Instead I let fear, doubt, distrust & anger rule me. Did they do anything to deserve this? No, instead they bore the brunt of my issues and yet still tried to support me and to help me. That my friends is what love is. Doing what is required of you for the betterment of each other and sacrificing for happiness. I used to know that and knew it intrinsically with every cell in my body and every facet of my soul. Depression took that knowledge and locked it away for a long terrible dark time.

I will not let myself fall back into the pit of despair, I have found once more that which makes me a good man. I have forgiven myself for I knew not what I did. I can not forget for I will bear the scars for the treatment I gave my loved ones till the end of my days. I will not forget there is a higher power who can give strength and help to those who ask for it. I will not ever let myself stop being the good person I know I am.

I just got word that the marching program at my high school is being eliminated, the board (particularly Shar Giard) didn’t allow comment from any of the Band Parent Association that were present during the vote. The board has regularly voted to give more money to the football team (not they’re ever really contenders though) while constantly shafting the award winning (Centennial is responsible for winning hundreds of awards in the last 30 years for musical performance, including over 18 sweepstakes awards at the Grand Floral Parade).

I’m a product of that marching program. Until I joined the band I was a completely undisciplined wallflower incapable of any real interaction with anyone. Now I’m a successful small business owner, father and husband. If it wasn’t for the tutelage and experience I received being a part of something bigger than my young high school mind could perceive I’d likely have not gone on to anything notable in my life. Curtailing a long running program because a. it’s too expensive and b. the new band director doesn’t like marching activites is idiocy. Why apply for the job if you want to eliminate half of it? Moron. Too expensive? Really? Music is time and time again proven to be better for academics as well as improving future prospects for success.

Here’s the note I received about the board’s decision:

In a very sad turn of events the Centennial School district board voted to shutdown the 2009/10 fall/winter marching program. A large contingent of Band Parent Assc members were present when the board was presented with the recommendation to continue the music program but only march for the rose parade. To our amazement the board pres. Shar Giard would not allow comment from any of our group even though it was clear they were acting on mis-information about the number of students currently participating in marching band and colorguard. They did not give any consideration at all to the members of the colorguard as they are not band students. We have had several meetings with the superintendent and members of the board and have had representation at all their meetings and all along they have been telling us that they are very supportive of the marching band program, that they wanted it to continue.
In case you had not heard we were also in a transition of directors this year, spearheaded in part by the band parents assc. because we wanted to see more dicipline and control of the program. Mr. Dave Mann has served as the director since Bret Cappelluti and with great enthusiam and effort. We applaud him for his time and wish him well in the future.
The position of director was posted and a number of very qualified applications were received. In the end the position was given to Mr. Claud Garrett, the current photography teacher at CHS, who had also applied. The administration said their hands were tied because of union rules and the fact that many teachers were being laid off due to the budget crisis. It seems Mr. Garrett had the right to bump anyone the school might have hired from outside. All that said the fact is that while Mr. Garrett has the credentials to teach music he has no interest in marching band, doesn’t even pretend to like drumcorps. He came to a band parent meeting last week and stated that the decision of whether there would be fall marching was out of his control. But it was very clear that given the choice he would not want to run it.

For all of you alumni I am greatly saddened as I was a parent during years when the CHS Marching Band and Colorguard was at the top of its game. I’m sure as you have chosen to be a member of this group that you too have fond memories of your marching days. It is very sad that there could be no future competitive marching band at Centennial.

I would ask that if you feel moved to do so you either write or call the superintendent, Dr. Mckean and all the current district board members and remind them that this is a program that has a rich history and should be preserved. You can find their contact information at this link..

http://www.centennial.k12.or.us/contacts/contacts_board.php

this group will continue and I invite a discussion on this matter

thank you

Mark Huff
CHS Band Parent Assc Communications Director

To the members of the board: You obviously weren’t members of the band so don’t understand the bond we all share regardless of what years we attended. If you want to kill something to save money why not cut out some of the athletic programs? More kids went through the music program then the athletics programs so it’s obviously a better investment. Regardless of anything the liklihood that I’ll ever donate money to the school again is exactly zero. I experienced how it was spent then and it doesn’t surprise me in the least that once again the band gets the sharp pointy end of the stick.

Oh and Claud Garett, obviously you aren’t qualified for this job in the least no matter what degree you’ve got. The Centennial band deserves someone who will appreciate their history. If you apply for a job do the whole job not just the parts that appeal to you.

So as I’m frequently in the habit of doing I was perusing my comments to see what people were saying on my site and stumbled across a new comment from a guy (we’ll call him Ignorant Douchebag Spammer or Steve for short) who at first glance appeared to be posting a relevant comment:

Affordable Web Design In the last bit of news I also recently switched to Disqus for my commenting needs. For those not in the know this means I have a few new features for my little spot on the web.

These words seemed to fit into the post I’d made (where I talk about switching over to Disqus) perfectly. It immediately dawned on me the reason it fit so perfectly is that it was a direct quote of my post. Once I realized this I checked on Disqus to see what else this asshat had posted. Comment after comment he’d quoted a short snippet from the blogs he’d commented on. Sort of creative but a really terrible and dangerous methodology to get SEO benefits. Here’s the link to his comment threads on Disqus. Once I’d removed and marked as spam the comment I decided to see what type of guy was behind this. So I popped over to his website and took a look. Let me digress for a moment by giving a few short rules to being a web developer and/or designer:

  1. Know what Information Delivery means (Your site shouldn’t look pretty first and give information second unless your site is a photo or illustration portfolio and even that should balance well with the delivery of information).
  2. Know what color consistency is (you don’t need to use all 65 million possible colors on your page, really trust me on this).
  3. Know how to make your pages consistent (if I click 3 pages on your site at random and none of the color schemes, layouts match…you’re not doing it right).
  4. Understand (I mean REALLY understand) how to properly choose and use fonts. A simple rule of thumb is: never use more than 3 fonts on a single website. Using more than that just looks chaotic and is stressful to the eye.
  5. Never ever ever ever (really EVER) proclaim yourself as “premiere” or an “expert” on anything when you obviously aren’t. Especially not an SEO expert.

Ok now that we’ve covered those basics let’s get back to the asshat that prompted this post. Now some of you might think that I crafted the above list with Steve (the spamming douchebag) in mind. Not true, that list was given to me by a long time friend 10 years ago when I first got into doing web development. Oddly Steve (the spamming douchebag) managed to break (with great alacrity no less) all 5 rules with just the front page of his site.

  1. Rule #1: His site is a (to quote Robert Hunter of the Grateful Dead) psychedelic mess.
  2. Rule #2: There are at least 4 colors to many (impressive since 3 of those colors are differing shades of blue).
  3. Rule #3: How in the heck did he do this? The header, sidebars, content and footer all have widely varying styles (I know it’s sort of amazing really).
  4. Rule #4: There are 7 different fonts used on the front page alone. I suppose one could play Devil’s Advocate and say he was trying to show that he could design a page to use different fonts but that Devil’s Advocate wouldn’t really be trying)
  5. Rule #5: Steve (the spamming douchebag) calls himself an “SEO Expert” yet his craptastic website has a Google pagerank of 3. That’s like saying George Bush is an expert at being President.

This is perfectly in sync with what I’ve been saying on twitter the last few days. It seems every 4th person that follows me has a job title of “Social Media Consultant” or “SEO Expert”. I remember these days perfectly 8 years ago during the Dot Com bubble. Every asshat with Front Page was suddenly an expert Web Designer yet none of them knew a damned thing. So far I haven’t linked the site that Steve (the spamming douchebag) “designed” because I don’t want to give him the benefits of my Google Ranking, which is hilariously a 4 even though I haven’t done any SEO work on my site EVER (other than running WordPress and making sure to have a standard compliant site). Speaking of standards compliance Steve’s site gets the fail whale there too.

So here Steve (you spamming douchebag) I’ll link to your site, but first here’s a quick rundown of other folks on the web who blogged about you before me: RipOffReport.com outsourcing fraud listing

If you’re going to say you do something you damn sure need to know how to do it, Steve Shearer doesn’t.

A quick update by the way: It looks like the way Disqus let’s you see all of the comments by a user in a single page means finding spammers out becomes vastly easier (such is the case with Steve (the spamming douchebag)

Update! 09/09: While updating all of my site images I found this “great” image of Steve himself. Someone’s been editing pixels it looks like (badly). Photoshop & Steve don’t mix.

Mitch Mitchell, the last surviving member of legendary 1960s band The Jimi Hendrix Experience, was found dead Wednesday in a hotel room in Portland,Oregon at the age of 62. Mitchell, the perfect counterpoint to Hendrix’s amazing and unique guitar style performed with Hendrix throughout Hendrix’s career including the notable Woodstock performance in 1969. In a statement on the official Jimi Hendrix website it was reported that he died of natural causes.

Janie Hendrix, stepsister of the late Jimi Hendrix as well as CEO of Experience Hendrix said.

“We’re all devastated to hear of Mitch’s passing, He was a wonderful man, a brilliant musician and a true friend. His role in shaping the sound of the Jimi Hendrix Experience cannot be underestimated.”

Mitchell had just finished his last US tour date in Portland with Experience Hendrix and was taking a 4 day vacation.

When I was a high school student I first discovered Hendrix and his music really moved me. I learned to play drums playing along with Mitch. You’ll be missed, it’s a shame that I missed seeing you perform again. Seeing you play way back in the mid 1990′s was a huge treat to me. While I’m sad you had to go, it’s nice that you got a few days to experience Portland.

Welcome to a tiny painful jaunt through the modern corporate credit rating easy system of NO! Hyperbole and general humor aside AT&T has some intelligent folks behind the scenes but with the exception of the sales people who aren’t management I haven’t dealt with them yet.

So 8 years ago I had service through AT&T, my contract was almost up and I was about to start a job working for Sprint. One of my last deeds as a “loyal” AT&T wireless customer was to refer my parents. At the time they were offering $50 per line for referral activations. This would have brought my account down to the point to pay off the remainder of my contract would have been under $50 nice right? Well too bad for me since AT&T never actually gave me the referral bonus. I was taught by my wise and cynical mother when it comes to corporations to NEVER throw money at a problem so I told AT&T until they fixed the issue I wasn’t paying them anymore or using the service either. Well the kind folks at AT&T customer service said no problem it would only take a few days to resolve the issue.

Let’s fast forward now to last July when I bought my iPhone. I was as excited and giddy as a young schoolgirl (pay attention and get the thoughts of those plaid skirts out of your head) as I plugged my iPhone into my Macbook Pro and awaited the iTunes activation. I entered in my SSN and omg! declined. What the hell I thought and called AT&T to find out why. Apparently I owed them over $400.00 for some reason. Wanting to learn more I got a copy of my credit report and discovered not one but two separate (yet identical) debts on my credit report. It seems that AT&T charged me a full $300.00 disconnection fee plus money owed with interest.

At this point I called AT&T back and asked them to look into it (I also notified the credit bureau of the double listing and they said it was verified that I owed both companies? (wth??)). Hilariously enough I was told that the records from that far back probably don’t exist so there is no way to honestly resolve the issue with full information.

Fast forward to this year when I tried to move from a gophone account with my iPhone (yeah I had to get a pay as you go plan which is really code for “gouge the people with bad credit plan which doesn’t actually improve their credit while being gouged” which is a mouthful and makes perfect sense as to why they shortened it), anyways I wanted to add Zoe (my wife) to my plan and make it a contracted family plan (which means her buying a phone and them earning more money off of us both on a contract since I bought my iPhone at an Apple store.

DECLINED! (or we could pay $400 per line deposit). The gentleman I spoke to at the AT&T store said no problem we can get the deposit waived. This sounded excellent. So thus began the dreaded 6 hours at the store. Everyone there was fairly helpful except the asst. manager on duty refused 2 hours worth of requests for a chair for the aforementioned wife (who is 7 months pregnant).

This same assistant manager also made a habit of frequently interrupting and even better ignoring politely worded questions. Amazingly (especially to the 5 or 6 customers who saw my treatment) I managed to keep a clear calm head until the bitter end when I did drop a harsh word the last time he interrupted me. I was trying to ask for his manager’s number as well as the district manager’s number to complain about him and he interrupted to tell me “he was done helping me”. I said continued interruption of a paying customer who wants to give the company more money is a really douchebag thing to do. At this point the elderly security guard told my wife and I to leave since we were hurting the feelings of the staff. At this point 2 of the staff members volunteered to go on record that my family was ill treated by the asst. manager.

Fast forward to me calling customer service the next day to make a complaint. The customer service rep took my complaint and said that behavior wasn’t tolerated and then offered to call another store saying “it’s an easy situation to override a deposit and give a waiver”. I said sure and he contacted the downtown Portland branch. The salesperson and he talked for about 5 minutes and then I was warm transferred to the salesperson and he got my email, mobile number and name and said he’d get back to me within 3 days. Excellent I thought finally some resolution.

3 days later I received an email from this salesperson letting me know that the PacNW operations dept said no. At the bottom of the email (which also contained the email to and from the operations center I noticed:

  • My full legal name
  • My mobile number
  • My home address
  • My internal customer id number
  • MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER

I immediately called the store and asked for a manager was told “none were on duty” and so called customer service who said that there was no way to take a complaint about email.

So I searched the consumerist.org website until I found the CEO’s office and called. The person who answered the phone put my call through to an executive care specialist who could barely speak english (no accent just not that coherent in his speech patterns) who told me “yes that’s against policy but there’s not anything we can do besides say we’re sorry”. Sorry? I’d like to buy a home soon and with the possibility that my SSN was sent in clear text and to who knows how many departments and I have no way of knowing who has my SSN now? For the record I gave the sales guy my email over the phone with no one ever verifying my identity. So apparently you can get SSN’s from AT&T by simply social engineering them now. Hooray for security.

To think this all started with my simpleminded idea that I’d be able to sign up to give more money to the corporation. It’s sad that AT&T is the only company in the US able to offer the iPhone. The worst part is I paid full price for the iPhone. Not subsidized by Apple or ATT like most other phones are. If AT&T had paid for part of the phone then I’d see it from their side but asking me to make a deposit almost equal to the cost of the phone is ludicrous.

I’m not a greedy person I just want to be able to talk to my wife regularly without having to pay a ton for the privilege. At this point however I do have some specific terms that AT&T can fulfill to keep me as a customer and to make right on a horrible run of bad customer service. I just want the plan I originally wanted, no contract, 6 months free (for the 48 hours plus invested that seems fair) and for risking my SSN an upgrade to a 16gb iPhone. All told it’s vastly less then the courts have awarded other people who’s SSNs have been released by corporations.

Ever wonder what it’d be like to live in a land without freedom of the press? Welcome to America 2008.

Wikileaks Press Release

WIKILEAKS.ORG DOWN AFTER EX-PARTE LEGAL ATTACK BY CAYMAN ISLANDS BANK

http://wikileaks.be/wiki/Wikileaks.org_under_injunction

Contacts: http://wikileaks.be/wiki/Contact

Mon Feb 18 00:00:00 GMT 2008

The following release has not been proofed due to time constraints.

Transparency group Wikileaks forcibly censored at ex-parte Californian
hearing — ordered to print blank pages — ‘wikileaks.org’ name
forcibly deleted from Californian domain registrar — the best justice Cayman
Islands money launderers can buy?

When the transparency group Wikileaks was censored in China last
year, no-one was too surprised. After all, the Chinese government
also censors the Paris based Reporters Sans Frontiers and New York
Based Human Rights Watch. And when Wikileaks published the secret
censorship lists of Thailand’s military Junta, no-one was too
surprised when people in that country had to go to extra lengths
to read the site. But on Friday the 15th, February 2008, in the
home of the free and the land of the brave, and a constitution which
states “Congress shall make no law… abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press”, the Wikileaks.org press was shutdown:

BANK JULIUS BAER & CO. LTD, a
Swiss entity; and JULIUS BAER BANK
AND TRUST CO. LTD, a Cayman Island ORDER GRANTING
entity, PERMANENT INJUNCTION

WIKILEAKS, an entity of unknown form;
WIKILEAKS.ORG, an entity of unknown
form; DYNADOT, LLC, a California
limited liability company; and DOES 1
through 10, inclusive,
[..]
IT IS HEREBY ORDERED:

[..]
Dynadot shall immediately clear and remove all DNS hosting
records for the wikileaks.org domain name and prevent the
domain name from resolving to the wikileaks.org website or
any other website or server other than a blank park page,
until further order of this Court.

The Cayman Islands is located between Cuba and Honduras. In July
2000, the United States Department of the Treasure Financial Crimes
Enforcement Network issued an advisory states stating that there
were “serious deficiencies in the counter-money laundering systems
of the Cayman Islands”, “Cayman Islands law makes it impossible for
the supervisory and regulatory authority to obtain information held
by financial institutions regarding their client’s identity”, “Failure
of financial institutions in the Cayman Islands to report suspicious
transactions is not subject to penalty” and that “These deficiencies,
among others, have caused the Cayman Islands to be identified by the
Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (The ‘FATF’) as
non-cooperative in the fight against money laundering”. As of 2006
the U.S. State Department listed the Cayman Islands in its money
laundering “Countries of Primary Concern”.

The Cayman’s case is not the first time Wikileaks has tackled
bad banks. In the second half of last year Wikileaks exposed over
$4,500,000,000′s worth of money laundering including by the former
president of Kenya, Daniel Arap Moi (see
http://wikileaks.be/wiki/The_looting_of_Kenya_under_President_moi
which became the Guardian’s front page story in September 2007 and
swung the Kenyan vote by 10% leading into the December 2007 election
and http://wikileaks.be/wiki/A_Charter_House_of_horrors reported
in the Nairobi paper The Standard and now the subject of a High
Court Case in Kenya).

To find an injunction similar to the Cayman’s case, we need to go
back to Monday June 15, 1971 when the New York Times published
excepts of of Daniel Ellsberg’s leaked “Pentagon Papers” and found
itself enjoined the following day. The Wikileaks injunction is the
equivalent of forcing the Times’ printers to print blank pages and
its power company to turn off press power. The supreme court found
the Times censorship injunction unconstitutional in a 6-3 decision.

The Wikileaks.org injunction is ex-parte, engages in prior restraint
and is clearly unconstitutional. It was granted on Thursday
afternoon by California district court judge White, Bush appointee
and former prosecutor.

The order was written by Cayman Island’s Bank Julius Baer
lawyers and was accepted by judge White without amendment, or
representations by Wikileaks or amicus. The case is over several
Wikileaks articles, public commentary and documents dating prior
to 2003. The documents allegedly reveal secret Julius Baer trust
structures used for asset hiding, money laundering and tax evasion.
The bank alleges the documents were disclosed to Wikileaks by
offshore banking whistleblower and former Vice President the Cayman
Island’s operation, Rudolf Elmer. Unable to lawfully attack Wikileaks
servers which are based in several countries, the order was served
on the intermediary Wikileaks purchased the ‘Wikileaks.org’ name through — California registrar Dynadot, who then
used its access to the internet website name registration system to delete the records for ‘Wikileaks.org’.
The order also enjoins every person who has heard about the order
from from even linking to the documents.

In order to deal with Chinese censorship, Wikileaks has many backup
sites such as wikileaks.be (Belgium) and wikileaks.de (Germany)
which remain active. Wikileaks never expected to be using
the alternative servers to deal with censorship attacks, from, of
all places, the United States.

The order is clearly unconstitutional and exceeds its jurisdiction.

Wikileaks will keep on publishing, in-fact, given the level of
suppression involved in this case, Wikileaks will step up publication
of documents pertaining to illegal or unethical banking practices.

Wikileaks has six pro-bono attorney’s in S.F on roster to deal with
a legal assault, however Wikileaks was given only hours notice “by email” prior
to the hearing. Wikileaks was NOT represented. Wikileaks pre-litigation
California council Julie Turner attended the start of hearing in a
personal capacity but was then asked to leave the court room.

White signed the order, drafted by the Cayman Islands bank’s lawyers without a
single amendment.

The injunction claims to be permanent, although the case is only
preliminary.

Wikileaks remains available publishing from non-US, non-Chinese
jurisdictions including http://wikileaks.cx/ and http://wikileaks.be/.

Here’s a letter from former Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich that’s quite appropriate to the topic. We’ve hit a point where it’s not about political affiliation anymore. Democrats, Republicans, liberals and conservatives should all gather and watch as the founding principles of our nation are systematically destroyed (think I’m exaggerating? check out sites like rawstory.com (mainstream media in the US rarely broadcasts anything that goes against Bush anymore).

“Dear Supporter,
Today is the sixth anniversary of my “Prayer for America” speech. Please take a moment to read the speech or watch it on YouTube:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8528466337 …

In light of the events that have taken place since I wrote and delivered it on February 17, 2002, you will see that long before anyone else in Congress saw the danger our country was headed toward, I spoke out — truthfully and forcefully.

I need your help to continue to be the voice of the people. My primary election is on March 4th, just a little more than two weeks from now. Today’s newspaper is reporting, once again, that I am being outspent heavily in my efforts for re-election. What is not said is where the money is coming from: Corporate interests whose narrow concerns do not allow for peace, for health care for all, for workers’ rights. I can and will continue to speak out with your support.

The working men and women of my district are working hard to protect this seat, which belongs to them. They are going door to door throughout the neighborhoods of the Cleveland area. Just yesterday, hundreds of dedicated citizens from all walks of life fanned out all across the District to spread the word about the importance of holding on to this Congressional seat so their voices will continue to be heard and represented in Washington.

With a million dollars being spent against us on negative ads, false claims, and misrepresentations, we need additional funds to make sure that our message gets on television, radio, and through the mails.

Please contribute as generously as you can at http://www.kucinich.us/contribute.html to ensure that the people continue to be represented in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Let our Prayer for America on this day in 2008 be one of determination that we will save our government — and this Congressional seat — from corporate control.

Dennis”

Great words from a true American. On the positive side the internet is ours. By ours I mean every free thinking person on the planet with access. We will NOT be stopped. There are already dozens of mirrors of wikileaks and every other site dedicated to telling the truth. Strike one site down and hundreds will rise to speak out against tyranny, fascism and other anti-freedom acts. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m getting back to teaching my son what America is really about (it has nothing to do with worshipping the government blindly).

mikey.gifIt’s been awhile since I have had time to post anything and I was hoping to have time in the near future to post something, tragically I get to post about someone I know dying yet again.

Our good friend Mike Baloga (also the godfather of our son) was killed while serving in Iraq. This is totally shitastic. One of the nicest all around people I’ve ever known and he joined the military to make sure his daughter Isis would be able to have a college education.

Dear Mike,

Dude you were always my favorite internet boyfriend (inside joke) and you’ll always be in my thoughts and heart. We miss you buddy and promise to be there for Isis anytime she needs us. Wish you’d had time to meet your godson but I’m sure you’re looking down on him from somewhere in that rave in the sky (say hey to Jimi, Janice and Jim for us will ya).

Chris, Zoe and Alexandr.
