Webdesign

I’ve been designing pages for nearly 8 years now, a large portion of the early days of my design career consisted of handling backend development and turning graphical design over to someone else. I’d always greatly enjoyed the backend aspects of design but found myself growing bored with the day in and day out usage of html, php & javascript. Eventually I decided to do more freelance work that would allow me the freedom to do my own graphical wizardry on the pages I’d built.

Everything I build is both CSS & Xhtml compliant and also is a balance of beauty and elegance.

Here’s a small sampling of work I’m especially fond of.

Dreamflicks.com

Dreamflicks.comClean site design for a blog hosting site. I wanted to go with something clean yet very geared towards presenting an easy introduction to what the site had to offer, as well as making sure that the users were able to have their blogs advertised the more they published plus make it easy to login from the main site. Mostly just a really simple way to allow people to blog about movies or whatever they wanted.

My Myspace Profile

My Personal Myspace ProfileDue to the lack of anything remotely resembling clean or even usable coding standards on myspace I was unable to do all that I had wanted to do.Since myspace is a near mandatory networking resource now I felt it time to update the look of my profile a tiny bit. With a smattering of CSS and some nice tiled images in photoshop this is the result. All in all I’m quite happy with the way it looks in IE 6, 7 and Firefox 2.

Lotusmg.com

lotus media groupClean site design for a Northwest based Media Design firm built using a smattering of php, xhtml and straight css for layout. Aside from the company logo the spec allowed me to design the page as I saw fit completely. In addition to the frontend site design I also handled principle design of the backend project management console which I adapted from the excellent Open Source app “WebCollab”. Overall one of my favorite projects to date.

Midcolumbiabrides.com

midcolumbiabridesWedding resource directory for all of Southeastern Washington. Client wanted a clean, fast loading datbase driven solution that would make the site a one stop destination for both vendors and prospective customers. Site built using xhtml, css, php and a minimal amount of javascript.

Brides2006

Tamara Weikel

dj Tamara I’ve long been an admirer of the political and humanist views of Dj Tamara. She had decided that she’d like a site that let her be herself rather than the persona of dj Tamara. After a few weeks of exchanging ideas I came up with a site that seamlessly blends the different facets of Tamara into a cohesive whole. The site is designed using a mixture of PHP, xhtml & CSS.

cdcstudios v6

cdc|studios v6 Sort of a surprise redesign to help celebrate the May 1st Reboot as well as offer support to the excellent CSS Reboot by Benjamin Adam. I also thought my old site had been getting a little long in the tooth so in a great burst of enthusiasm I created the little site you’re currently experiencing. I’m already roughing out the next incarnation (working title is: Sonata).

Personal CSS experiments

css experiments A random assortment of css driven designs for a simple personal journal I keep. The actual journal is offline at the moment but the original rough templates are up and still working using a php include to swap stylesheets ala the CSS Zengarden. Not the most functional work but pleasant on the eye and quite minimalist.

cdchosting.com v2

cdchosting v2 Version 2 of the network consulting business I owned. Since our focus shifted from webhosting and ecommerce solution delivery it seemed it would be a good idea to revamp the site. The photo in the header was taken during a vacation to Yosemite last year. Nature and her inherent beauty seem to be helping inspire nearly every aspect of my recent design projects.

cdcstudios.com v5

cdc|studios v5 This is the version of the site I just replaced. I’d designed it just shortly after becoming less “tech design” oriented and more organic in my layout ideas. This was also the first site I’d made that relied totally on CSS based layouts. The new version of the site still contains a few elements that I managed to hang on to when I redesigned.

cdchosting.com v1

cdchosting v1 An early clean and crisp version of the cdchosting site. Less of an organic feel than the current site. Site had a fairly complex backend combining CSS, javascript and a few php tools. For the smoothness of the design the layout proved quite tiny once converted from a layout image into the actual html version pictured.

Blog Template

CW Journal Template A fun design that was part of a blogging template contract. The client wanted 5 templates to offer her models. Out of those I submitted this is my favorite. The icons are a bit dirty (both tastewise as well as qualitywise) but the design is pure css and quite smooth loading. Easily customized and quite clean layout.

cdcstudios.com v2

cdc|studios v2 The first totally integrated version of my site. Due to the way I designed it, the result was very pretty but next to useless when it came to ease of updating. This design really expanded my knowledge of usability and accessibility. Still a site I am personally inspired by. There are a lot of subtle quirks I still embrace and use in the rest of my designs.
