So I was thinking earlier, what if the design world suddenly embraced Intellectual Rights the way massive corporations do? Imagine a design world where you had to pay for the ability to use Douglas Bowman’s Sliding Doors technique or Shaun Inman charged royalties for the usage of IFR?

Some of you just read that and thought “yes absolutely they should charge people for these things”. While that may or not be true the real question is what are marketing people doing reading this? Actually as I see it the reason they don’t is an inherent difference between a corporate point of view and an artistic point of view. The spread of new artistic styles are dependant on open source techniques and it’s a shame that the rest of the creation world can’t understand that sharing openly is better sometimes. Sadly that entire concept of open source is being squashed flat with every new “protective” law passed by the suits.

Not really a fully realized post but it was one of the ideas running through my head that needed to be let out. On a positive note we do have great organizations such as Creative Commons fighting the good fight.

cssrebootWell after a few different rough layouts that had differing levels of completion I am quite happy to say that the “reboot” edition created for the May 1st Reboot & CSS Reboot is complete.

I started off with a page that was moderately easy to update and 100% css/xhtml compliant but completely lacking an integrated anything. After deciding to use wordpress as the main software on my site (woo aren’t I trendy?) I sat down and took a look at the sites that inspire me most and what I wanted out of my site. I’m pretty sure I covered everything I want for the public side at the moment. Although I do look forward to an integrated blogroll plugin that works similarly to del.icio.us at some point.

Next up on my plate is to start working on an integrated client area for the private side as well as to work on the “hopefully soon to launch” Gallery 2 install (that’ll happen once I finish familiarizing the template system and backend of G2. Sometime before or after that (see how precise my timing can be?) I’ll most likely be revamping the entire backend of this site again in preparation for the styleswitcher and the 2nd stylesheet (which has a working title of “Sonata”). That stylesheet will require some hefty backend javascripting but will be quite worth it in the end.

Finally before I wrap this initial first post up I’d like to thank the following designers/sites for inspiring me to create this site.

Thanks again and I hope you enjoy my site

Peace,

Chris
