Somehow I don’t think I’ll get any answers explaining the difference :D
Somehow I don’t think I’ll get any answers explaining the difference :D
Dear God, why do priests molest so many young children? You’re allowed in church.
Logic processing, some have it (non religious people) some don’t (the guy who designed this tshirt) :D
War on religion?
So due to some total stupidity and assumptive behavior by seriouslyamerica I’m being portrayed as an American against Islam. Nope. Every single religion is bad to me. And not because of the news, television, newspaper, talk radio. But because I grew up with an insatiable need to learn. Im an infovore, and the more I read about religion the more I saw it was toxic.
Now first off: I don’t nor have I ever drawn Muhammed. I don’t need to. Do I think it’s appropriate for me to do? It doesn’t actually matter. If YOUR feelings get hurt by me doing so, fantastic now you know I feel when a christian tries to say that we should be forced to pray in school and we’re a christian nation. We’re not and it’s stupid to insist otherwise.
Secondly: We’re honestly having a debate over respecting other people’s imaginary friends. Think about that. Where is the bar set for how to behave? “It’s in my holy book” fantastic! Now show me how to tell that Islam is true and christianity isn’t. But chris why can’t we all just agree to disagree. Because both fucking books say I’m supposed to be murdered for not believing in them. That’s insanity.
Religion is stupid, all of my friends know I think that way. I have good defensible rational arguments for why it’s stupid too. My religious friends know I feel this way and I don’t attack them. I also don’t put up with them proselytizing their fictional fantasies as real around me. That’s called being respectful. I don’t attack if they don’t preach. simple.
Now that I’ve said both of those let me clarify. The instant your mythos demands I be killed because I violated (knowingly or unknowingly) one of the rules in YOUR mythos you’ve crossed the line from being respectful to being totally fucking batshit crazy.
I’m an anti-theist and atheist. Science has found zero evidence corroborating ANY existence of an afterlife. Logically the correct behavior is to protect life because we get only one shot. Religion is the system of saying “it’s ok to kill, there’s a heaven”.
Religion is the great rationalizer for collateral damage. 9/11 took 3,000 lives in the name of religion. Since then an additional 550,000-750,000 civilians in the middle east have died in the name of christianity and revenge. That’s insane.
Now rather than attacking me, a guy who goes WELL out of his way to help people (and not by praying for them) but my getting off my ass and doing what I can to keep people from being bullied, threatened, assaulted, or killed by religious zealots who hate: mothers that are trying to get an abortion, gay kids who were born that way, women who don’t want to live with their abusive husbands who think “the bible says I own my wife”, atheists who just want to be left alone and not forced to believe, or any of the other massive variety of extremely horrifying things done in religions name worldwide every single day.
But Chris some of you will whine “there are many good christians, muslims, buddhists, satanists, and other religions out there that AREN’T being violent psychopaths”. Great, as soon as all of those “good people” stand the fuck up and say ENOUGH of this nonsense to their fellow believers I’ll concur they’re good, until then they’re nothing more than Richard Nixon’s “silent majority” of jackasses who let evil be done in their name.
Think before you assume but do assume that anyone who threatens violence in the name of their god is equally insane as David Berkowitz.
Now, I’m going to go play some Skyrim and try and not eat any babies.
Christians; You guys need to realize that God forgives all, and in his eyes a person that hates and a gay person is the same sin. They are NO fucking different. God likes a “quiet soul” So don’t push your beliefs in ANYONES face. God Does NOT HATE GAYS. And if he did he…
11 hindu gods you say? You’re missing a few thousand (technically million actually) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hindu_deities
Also atheist’s don’t hate your myth. Anti-theists hate your myth as well as every other one of the sick, depraved, & nonsensical myths out there.
Atheism = A lack of belief in gods. Period, no more to it than that. If you think otherwise, congrats you’re totally wrong. Here’s a prize…not really, if we went around giving rewards to people for being wrong, then religious people would corner the market on worthless trinkets (see also crosses, islamic symbols, stars of david, buddhist prayer beads, rosary beads, pentacles, & twilight merchandise).
Now to address your insane view that “the government has to protect religion” you realize there are thousands of religions that say you can marry anyone you want right? What you’ve done is assume a. your myth is true b. that your myth has a right to imperil and oppress nonbelievers and c. that your lack of knowledge is something worth sharing.
So here is some homework for you: Stop posting spurious thoughtless tripe like this. It’s great you mean well and all but the book you worship has rules that easily show your god is either false or a giant dickhead.
Pop quiz: If the bible is by god why is there no advanced medicine advice for 2000 year ago peasants (something as simple as “wash thine hands before eating”)?
Why does your god have commandments about not worshipping false idols (presumably real idols are ok, oh hey kelly clarkson!) but no rules against rape. That’s right your evil little monstrous book has a rule that a rape victim’s father must be paid and the rapist must marry the daughter.
Why does your evil vile little book have rules about the proper treatment of slaves rather a rule against slavery?
I used to be a Catholic, then a Christian, then one day I looked at the bible and thought, wow, this is completely nonsensical insanity. Then I read other religions books and realized “oh shit, it’s all nonsense”.
Tell you what, I’ll stop hating religion as soon as it stops being a toxic nightmare that harms billions in the name of imaginary friends. Bummer deal is over 10,000 different species have homosexual behavior. Only religion calls that unnatural.
I’m happy to announce that I am participating in Secular Student Alliance week! Lots of fantastic bloggers from over at Freethought Blogs will be hosting crazy amounts of blogging to raise money for the Secular Student Alliance to help them finish up their match with Jeff Hawkins and Janet Strauss (which you can read about here). However, rather than doing crazy amounts of blogging, I am participating in a way that I am actually good at - yes, I will be CROCHETING ridiculous amounts the next ten days!
What does this mean exactly? Well, for every item I make over the next ten days, I will be posting it on ebay as an auction for you to bid on. All the proceeds will go to the Secular Student Alliance, which is ABSOLUTELY my favorite secular organization (Camp Quest is also up there, don’t worry)!
Starting today, I have posted a handmade-by-crochet Flying Spaghetti Monster. The auction for this particular item will last TEN DAYS (which is how long SSAweek lasts). I will post a new item every day and the length of the auction will decrease for the new item as well. That means the item I post on Day 3 will last 7 days, the item on Day 5 will last 5 days, and so on and so forth. That means I should have an official tally of how much is raised through these items by the time SSA week ends. :)
If you have any atheist-themed items you have in mind that I could crochet, let me know! I have a few, but I might need some inspiration. I will also be posting a few other blog posts about my experience with the SSA and why I think they’re such a great organization. If you just want to make a donation to the Secular Student Alliance, you can do that here.
The Flying Spaghetti Monster, in particular, is dear to my heart, as I am a leader of the Pastafarians at the University of South Carolina, which is an affiliate of the Secular Student Alliance. I have spent the past three years actively involved in the organization and I couldn’t imagine my college years without it. I also crocheted six or so FSMs last summer for the bloggers for Camp Quest (as pictured above at the Secular Student Alliance conference last year), so you could be owning something that very few people out there own - and they’re REALLY COOL PEOPLE.
Remember this when you’re distraught and waiting. This is true.
Wow. This sounds suspiciously convenient of god.
I think we can agree that I’m not in the mood for Fundies on facebook…
Science > Religion
irritate prank troll your religious friend’s iPhones. Truthfully it equates to the same thing so you’re not actually making their phones lie right? ;)
